Our Story

Kalau Builders was built on a simple belief: a well-built home and a good building experience should go together. We work with homeowners and design partners on thoughtful remodels, additions, and custom homes in Lane County, with careful planning, clear communication, and respect for everyone involved.

Founder Chris Draper started out as a child helping his parents on a fixer-upper, and began working in construction as a teenager. Years in the field gave him a practical understanding of how homes come together and how much coordination a successful project requires. He started his own construction business in 2015 and later moved to Oregon with his family, where Kalau Builders took shape.

The name Kalau reflects the spirit of aloha that inspires our company: treating people with kindness, respect, and accountability. That applies to our clients, our team, our trade partners, and the neighbors who live alongside a project.

Today, we focus on complex residential work that benefits from close collaboration. We take time to understand how our clients live, work with architects and designers to support the intent behind their plans, and communicate openly as decisions and site conditions evolve.

Our goal is to become the most people-focused home builder and remodeler in Lane County. We work toward that goal in the details of every project: how we listen, how we care for a home during construction, and how we follow through.
